1. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Dominic Veneziale, husband of Lynn. our
dedicated Kindergarten Aide, who passed away suddenly.
2. Today we celebrate the gift of the Rosary, given to St. Dominic by the Blessed Mother
in 1206 as he wanted to stop the spread of the Albigensian heresy. Mary obliged by
giving him the Rosary and it proved a great help to Dominic as he initiated the
mysteries of the Rosary to recall key moments in the lives of Jesus & Mary, plus the
150 Hail Marys were to parallel the 150 Psalms prayed by the monks.
In 1571, Pope Pius V organized a coalition of forces from Spain and smaller
Christian Kingdoms to rescue Christians who were under seige by the powerful navy of
the Ottoman Empire. On October 7th, the Holy League of the Pope sailed from
Messina, Italy and met a powerful Ottoman fleet in the Battle of Lepanto! The Pope
then called upon all Christians to pray the Rosary for victory! Their prayers were
answered when a major shift in the wind favored the Christian fleet, slowing the
advance of the Ottoman Navy to the West and denying them access to the Atlantic
Ocean and the Americas! The Pope lost no time instituting the feast of Our Lady of Victory in order to commemorate the victory at Lepanto which he attributed to the
Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary! The Ottoman Empire never fully recovered from their
losses or was able to become the Naval power they once were. "Whew!"
Editor's Note: "Never doubt the power of the ROSARY given to us by Mary. It is her
hope we pray it daily, especially in these challenging times..."
