While attending Good Friday services a few minutes ago, and keeping all of you in my prayers, I could not help but make the association of the ultimate cause of Christ's death and what sufferers of COVID-19 go through. Roman crucifixion was meant to cause prolonged suffering before death on a cross.
The agony of being nailed to a cross, besides the obvious pain, was to bring about eventual suffocation of the victim. Christ had to force himself to raise
his body, to facilitate expanding his lungs, by pushing his legs down on the block of wood upon which his feet were nailed to provide his lungs with the ability to breathe, however painful and tiresome that was. After three hours of this agony, He gave up His spirit with the words "It is finished." When the soldiers were anxious to remove the bodies, they had to make sure they were dead, so they broke of legs of the two thieves on either side of Christ which gave them no breathing support and they quickly expired. Christ already died so there was no need for that procedure to happen to Him.
It was knowing Christ died of suffocation, eventually, that coincides with the agony of persons afflicted with COVID-19 whose respiratory system becomes endanged by this virus... This should make us pray with so much positivity for all those responsible for protecting our health and also for
those who are affected by this virus. Please take care and stay safe...
